Tutorial: Frame Your Earrings

What do you do with your tribal jewelry? Mine was hanging off my dresser - not the greatest treatment for antiques.  Then I found this little frame on the weekend - and everything changed. This tutorial is all my favourite things - easy, inexpensive, pretty, and useful. Hope you like it too!

What you will need:
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun
  • Frame (any size or shape - pick one you love!)
  • Fabric - sturdy enough to hold heavy tribal earrings, but not so tough that it can't be pierced with an earring backing.
  • Paint or decorations if you want to alter your frame

Okay let's get started! First Separate the frame from the glass. Let's do the frame first.

My frame was $1.99 from Value Village. I decided to paint it black. You can paint it, glue things on it, whatever you want. You could buy a gorgeous new frame and use it as is - whatever your heart desires!

I used a simple acrylic paint because I already had some in my craft storage, but you could use spray paint or whatever you have around. I let it dry and then distressed it slightly so that some of the original colour showed through. This makes it look a bit more vintage.

Then it's time to move on to the other half of this project - the glass. Cut a piece of fabric slightly larger than your glass. As shown below, it does not have to be perfect!

Then fold the overlap of fabric over the back of the glass and glue it in place. I glued the top and bottom first so it wouldn't move around on me, then continued on either side.

Done! Your last step is to place the glass back in the orginal frame.

And voila! A beautiful earring holder!

Now I realise my frame could only hold maybe one more pair, but it's perfect for now! Then I'll use a larger frame and make another one when I need more space. I think using a small frame like this would be a great way to present a gift too.

The great thing about this project is how versatile it is. You can customize it to your exact style and taste - to match your decor, to make a statement, anything!

Hope you enjoyed this, have fun making your own! :)
